The Power of Local Content
The Local Life is a network of local city guides designed to help visitors and locals find things to do, and share information about their favorite places. Our Small Business Marketing Platform provides a complete online marketing solution for small businesses, and gives them a publishing platform for all their local content. Content like Open Mic Night, Local Bands, Organic Tasting Menus, Anniversary Sales, Happy Hours, etc. Content that you won’t find from a national syndication feed, but content that matters to those in the neighborhood.
Our Publishing Platform gives local businesses a voice to empower their content, and tell the world about things happening at their business. It empowers them to maintain their own event calendar, build their own blog, and then use the combined power of Search, Social Media and Email Marketing to deliver their message. This all comes together to build a community of active, local businesses publishing information that you won’t find anywhere else, and finding new customers for themselves in the process. As the content grows, our sites become an essential hub for event information in the community.
In an increasingly interconnected world, we as a society are coming back to our roots and looking for more information about whats going on around us. The Local Life provides a resource to find valuable information about what is happening in our communities, specifically at the local businesses we already frequent. From non-profit fundraisers, to elementary bake sales, to the Annual Mardis Gras Winter Gala, users are adding unique, engaging content every day and creating an ecosystem of local content that can’t be found anywhere else.
Where we Started
The Local Life was founded in September of 2005 by Jamie Hutson. Jamie had recently graduated from Skidmore College, and spent the summer contemplating a better resource for whats happening in Saratoga Springs than the Thursday paper. The site was conceived with the premise that out of date information can be frustration and local businesses would be able to update their profiles weekly with new specials, promotions and live music. After about 6 months of manual weekly updates, Jamie created version 2 of TheSaratogaLife.com and created a website that allowed businesses to make the updates themselves. Through the spring of 2008 The Local Life grew to 4 sites in the Northeast.
In the summer of 2008 George Ehinger joined The Local Life and the company simultaneously expanded into 4 additional markets and began development of The Local Life Platform. As the recession grew and local media companies began to struggle to grow revenues, George and Jamie realized there was an opportunity to help existing local media companies build their digital presence with a compelling local communication platform.
In September 2009 The Local Life completed its latest version of their platform, which enabled local businesses to completely manage their digital marketing from one convenient dashboard. Today we operate in 9 cities throughout the Northeast with media partnerships covering much of that area.
